Pruning plants, especially when young, will help them to grow full, and in the shape you desire. Propagation, like germination, is the process of growing roots and is therefore a delicate procedure. Japanese maples, especially young trees, have some sensitivity to extreme heat and sunlight. Once they have established their root system, they will grow and thrive for decades, with little or no care. If you are in the Upper or Middle South, full sun. Maple trees are easy to grow.
