Quotations About Mindfulness As Mantras

Fulfillment has much to do with how you perceive some aspect of your life, some experience. Attitude is important. Happiness, it has been said, is a state of mind. Gratitude is an optimistic and positive way to look at the world. You are responsible for your own happiness and the state of your life. Optimism is clearly the best outlook if one had to choose. The journey should be treasured and goals should be de-prioritized. Spirituality is as important as the mental, emotional, and physical. The most important things in life cannot be touched, monetized, kept, or produced. Meditation and mindfulness are important ways to live a better and healthier life. God is all around us and can only be known by perceiving not with the eye, but the heart. Wisdom comes from reflection, but sometimes, staring right at a thing shrouds it in obscurity. This is a blog featuring quotations about mindfulness, gratitude, and relaxation.

To some degree I endorse these beliefs. I’m not naturally a very sensual, spiritual, or new-age kind of person. To me, insight tends to be mostly rational/mental. Science is very important to me. I’m really not sure about ESP and other parapsychological phenomena. I do realize, though, that just because I have a tendency to see something in this way or that, it doesn’t make it better or right. I get that religious people are happier and healthier overall. I know meditation is supposed to be very beneficial. Optimism is clearly better than pessimism, though I find myself seeing the glass as half-full.

To help myself see what is real, and not just what is visible, and to deepen up and slow down and relax, I looked into some quotations about mindfulness, gratitude, and relaxation. I do see the power of something a bit esoteric and transcendental, such as the classic quote by Nathaniel Hawthorne: “Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued is just beyond one’s grasp, but which if you will sit down, may alight upon you.” That’s beauty. That is insightful. That is deep. Want to see more? I present to you quotations about mindfulness, gratitude, and relaxation:

“Just slow down. Slow down your speech. Slow down your breathing. Slow down your walking. Slow down your eating. And let this slower, steadier, pace perfume your mind. Just slow down…” – Doko

“Appreciate life even if it’s not perfect. Happiness is not fulfillment of what we wish for, but an appreciation of what we have.” – Paul Chucks

“Slow down and enjoy life. It’s not only the scenery you miss by going too fast-you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.” – Eddie Cantor

“Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever, have enough.” – Oprah Winfrey

“Practicing mindfulness over time reveals and develops the qualities of wisdom and compassion, the twin virtues of the discipline. Wisdom means seeing clearly into the fundamental nature of reality. Through meditative practice, we can deeply recognize the eternal arising and passing away of all phenomena and see the unsatisfactory quality of ordinary human experience that derives from the illusion of the self as an entity separate from the rest of reality.” – Mark W. Muesse

“Don’t grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form.” – Mevlana Rumi

“I was born gifted. I can speak of my gifts with little or no modesty, but with tremendous gratitude, precisely because they are gifts, and not things which I created, or actions about which I might be proud.” – Joan Baez

“You’re only here for a short visit. Don’t hurry, don’t worry. And be sure to smell the flowers along the way.” – Walter Hagen

“May God bless them. May God bless America, and give us the strength and wisdom, the generosity and compassion, to do our duty for this wondrous land, and for the world that counts on us. With all its suffering and dangers, the world still looks to the example and leadership of America to become, another, better place. What greater cause could anyone ever serve.” – John McCain

“If you’re always racing to the next moment, what happens to the one you’re in?” – Nanette Mathews

“We barely know how to enjoy things anymore because we are always looking ahead to the next thing.” – Carl Honore

“Too many people get caught up in what could be instead of appreciating what is. Don’t fall into that trap. Appreciate what you have and who you have, because the future can take it all away from you at any time.” – Unknown

“The most important gifts you can give are your love, time, and attention. Slow down, and take time to smile & enjoy loved ones…life goes by way too fast.” – Carla White

“Happiness is itself a kind of gratitude.” – Joseph Wood Krutch

“Most of the time, our minds function by generating a constant swirl of remarks and judgments that create a barrier of words and images that separates us from our own lives. This mental condition of mindlessness makes it difficult to be mindful, or attentive, to the experiences of our lives.” – Mark W. Muesse

“Beauty surrounds us, but usually we need to be walking in a garden to know it.” – Mevlana Rumi

“Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to accomplish something big, that we fail to notice the little things that give life its magic.” – Unknown

“So often we become so focused on the finish line that we fail to enjoy the journey.” – Dieter F. Uchtdorf

“It is not necessary to live at the mercy of an untamed mind. By coming to understand the way our minds work, we can learn to shape our mental functions in ways that will remove the frantic, driven, distracted, semiconscious qualities from our lives.” ~ Mark W. Muesse

“Like a bee in a flower bed, the human brain naturally flits from one thought to the next. In the high-speed workplace, where data and deadlines come thick and fast, we are all under pressure to think quickly. Reaction, rather than reflection is the order of the day. To make the most of our time, and to avoid boredom, we fill up every spare moment with mental stimulation. When did you last sit in a chair, close your eyes and just relax?” ~ Carl Honore

“Happiness will never come to those who don’t appreciate what they already have.” – Unknown
