If you read the newspaper, you undoubtedly come across story after story about radical Muslims killing themselves to destroy others, radical Christians in America talking about assassinating world leaders, much of the American social service sector being converted to “faith-based” providers, and a litany of issues related to religion such as abortion, gay marriage, and the pledge of allegiance. In addition to the positive, personal aspects of believing in a higher power, religion has, for centuries, been a divisive, misleading factor in civilization. It is also an effective way to influence persons’ minds, as can be seen in George Bush’s public faith, as well as the Islamo-fascist countries in the Middle East. Is it helpful, or harmful?
